What Your Lips Can Tell You About Your Health - Glam

Image
Dehydration, vitamin deficiencies, and allergies can cause dry, chapped lips. Did you know that these are the real reason your lips are always chapped? If your lips always seem chapped and dry no matter how much lip balm, lip gloss, and lip creams you use, you may find yourself wondering if there's an underlying cause behind the pesky problem. Chapped and dry lips are common because, as the Cleveland Clinic notes, the skin on your lips is thinner than anywhere else on your body, and it doesn't contain any oil glands. Anything from dehydration, allergens, exposure to the elements, vitamin deficiencies, and certain medical conditions can cause chapped lips. Chapped and dry lips aren't simply annoying but they can also be painful. If you suffer from a severe case, certain foods and products can sting when they make contact with your lips. If you're suffering from chapped lips, you can use a non-irritating lip balm (or other lip product), drink plenty of wate...

Dating With Herpes Can Be Hard. Here Are Some Tips To Make It ... - Glam

Image
Many opt to take daily anti-herpes medicine to get their dating life back in full swing. There's no cure for any strain of herpes, but its symptoms can be managed with certain topical and oral medications as well as alternative therapies. Antiviral drugs, like Valtrex (valacyclovir), famciclovir (Famvir), and Zovirax (acyclovir) are the most popular treatment options for herpes, according to K Health. Not only do treatments heal herpes sores faster than other options, but they work to prevent you from passing the infection to your sexual partners. For those with a more severe case of genital herpes, your healthcare provider may prescribe an intravenous antiviral medication, which entails inserting a needle into a vein to administer the antiviral drug straight into your bloodstream. In some circumstances, doctors may advise adopting acupuncture as an alternative therapy to speed up the healing of sores. A 2022 study published in the Annals of Palliative Medicine on the use of ac...

A Case Study of a Rapidly Progressive Cellulitis of the Penis and ... - Cureus

Image
Cellulitis is a rare cause of pediatric acute scrotal pain, causing less than 0.5% of cases [1]. All prior case reports documented preceding trauma, including circumcision, as a potential nidus of infection [2-4]. Typically, skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are caused by Staphylococcus aureus and group A Streptococcus (GAS) [5]; however, scrotal cellulitis has additionally been associated with gastrointestinal bacteria and group B Streptococcus (GBS) [1-3,6,7]. The fact that anaerobes are implicated in genital infections is unsurprising, given the close proximity of the gastrointestinal tract, which harbors bacteria that are predominantly obligate anaerobes [6]. Further, anaerobes, predominantly Bacteroides sp. , are found in the cultures taken from roughly 85% of infected areas throughout the body and from 88% of suppurative infections of the male genitourinary tract [4,6]. We report a two-month-old infant with rapidly progressing scrot...
