THE QUEBEC GOVERNMENT MUST NOW IMPLEMENT AN HPV SCREENING PROGRAM THAT FOLLOWS THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF INESSS AND PUBLIC HEALTH - Yahoo Finance

Image
Cervical Cancer Awareness Month MONTREAL , Jan. 31, 2022 /CNW Telbec/ - January is dedicated to raising awareness about cervical cancer. HPV can cause cervical cancer, and over 75% of the population will have at least one type of HPV in their lifetime. HPV Global Action and the Quebec Cancer Coalition are joining forces to call on the government to optimize their cervical screening practices to better prevent cervical cancer for the 4,147,605 people in Quebec with a cervix. While a much more effective option exists; the HPV test, the government persists in using the Pap test which has an error rate of up to 40%. By improving the screening process, Quebec would contribute to the World Health Organisation's (WHO) goal of being on the path, by 2030, to eliminating cervical cancer. By combining HPV vaccination programs, with an effective cervical screening program due in part to accompanied letters of invitations, result recalls and follow-up letters to those eligible, cervical canc...

Canker sores — medically known as aphthous ulcers — primarily show up along the sides of the tongue, under the tongue, inside of the cheeks, or inside of the lips, according to Villa. "These are the most common areas," he says. They're typically small, shallow, and white or yellowish with a red border...

Intertrigo: Causes, symptoms, pictures, and treatment - Medical News Today

Image
Intertrigo is a skin condition that causes a rash in folds of the skin, such as under the breasts, in the groin, or under the tummy fold. It happens when areas of moist skin rub together. Bacteria and yeast can grow in this environment, leading to an infection. In this article, we describe what intertrigo is, what it looks like, and what causes it. We also cover diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Intertrigo is a skin condition that happens when folds of skin chafe against each other. It usually develops in the inner thighs or armpits, or under the breasts or tummy fold. Some people may experience yeast or bacterial infections in the folds of skin. Areas of moist skin rubbing together cause intertrigo. The warm, damp environment makes the skin conducive to irritation and the growth of yeast and bacteria, which can lead to an infection. While it can happen at any age, intertrigo tends to affect infants, older people, and those with a reduced ability to move around. In babies, it is of...

We include products we think are useful for our readers. If you buy through links on this page, we may earn a small commission. Here's our process. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) refer to conditions that can pass from person to person through sexual contact. They are common infections that many people may not be aware they have, meaning many people may unknowingly transmit them. Many quick, safe, and readily available STD tests can help prevent further transmission and health complications. Rather than use the older term STDs, many doctors now tend to refer to these conditions as sexually transmitted infections, or STIs. Early detection and treatment are vital to prevent transmission and complications due to untreated STIs. Regular testing is important, and healthcare professionals can advise about STI tests. If people do not feel comfortable doing so, many clinics, pharmacies, or services can provide confidential and free or low-cost testing. According to the Centers for Dis...

With sexually transmitted infections off the charts, California pushes at-home tests - The Detroit News

Image
Rachel Bluth  |  Kaiser Health News Sacramento, Calif. — California has become the first state to require health insurance plans to cover at-home tests for sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, chlamydia and syphilis — which could help quell the STI epidemic that has raged nearly unchecked as public health departments have focused on COVID-19. The rule, part of a broader law addressing the STI epidemic, took effect Jan. 1 for people with state-regulated private insurance plans and will kick in sometime later for the millions of low-income Californians enrolled in the state's Medicaid program. By making it easier and cheaper for Californians to self-administer tests in the privacy of their homes, the provision could bring better disease monitoring to rural and underserved parts of the state, reduce the stigma patients experience when seeking care and give them more control over their health, say experts on infectious diseases. "This is the first law ...
